Best Study Schedule for P6 Students Preparing for PSLE
The Balanced P6 Study Schedule
PSLE is a marathon, not a sprint. The biggest mistake parents make is starting intensive revision too early and burning their child out by September.
The 3-Phase Approach
Phase 1: January–June (Foundation)- Focus on understanding concepts, not drilling papers
- 1 hour of focused study per day (after school)
- Weekend: 1 practice paper + review mistakes
- 1.5–2 hours per day
- Alternate between subjects daily
- Weekend: 2 practice papers + mistake review
- Start timed practice for exam conditions
- 2 hours per day, focused on weak areas only
- Daily: 1 timed paper section
- Review ALL past mistakes weekly
- Reduce new content — focus on consolidation
Sample Weekly Schedule (Phase 2)
| Day | Subject | Activity |
|---|---|---|
| Mon | Maths | Weak topic practice (fractions, ratio) |
| Tue | English | Composition + comprehension |
| Wed | Science | Process skills + open-ended questions |
| Thu | Chinese | Comprehension + composition |
| Fri | Maths | Timed paper practice |
| Sat | 2 full papers | Morning session, review in afternoon |
| Sun | REST | No studying. Sports, family time. |
Key Principles
- Quality over quantity — 1 hour of focused practice beats 3 hours of distracted studying
- Review mistakes, not just answers — understanding WHY you got it wrong prevents repeating
- Sleep matters — 9 hours minimum. Tired children don't retain information
- Keep weekday evenings short — children need downtime to process learning
